Lake Lioson, affectionately known as the "pearl of the Alpine lakes", is situated at 1'850 m in the Pic Chaussy massif. Accessible by foot, even on mountain bike for the more seasoned riders, Lake Lioson is one of the most popular places in the resort. The surrounding mountain range is perfectly mirrored in the crystal clear waters of the lake bringing that extra touch of magic to this scenic spot.
In summer and autumn, it's the perfect destination at the end of a family ramble and the same goes for the more dedicated hiker. Lake Lioson can be reached by different pedestrian trails which cater for all levels of experience. From the Col des Mosses, the quickest and most direct route is via Lioson En Bas; allow 1 ½ hours for the climb.
Lake Lioson is also an ideal spot for fishing. With easy access to all shores surrounding it, the lake is regularly stocked with fish and is one of the highest altitude places in which to fish. For the brave at heart, unsupervised swimming is de rigueur on a warm summer's day. The terrace of the nearby restaurant offers a grandstand view of the lake as well as a small wildlife park, a delightful attraction for children.
In winter, Lake Lioson is covered entirely in snow and is a much sought-after area for divers. Its clear waters, topped by a thick layer of ice interspersed with trapped air bubbles presents a kaleidoscope of light and colours to dazzle the intrepid divers.
